Gong hei fat choy friends! This is yet another late post from 2019’s Chinese New Year celebrations. To celebrate, we went to New York’s Chinatown for dim sum and soaking in the festive atmosphere.
Confetti and glitter covered Chinatown’s streets. Vendors on the side of the road kept inviting us to purchase noise makers and other new year souvenirs. After seeing the noise maker demo, we gave in. (At this point, dim sum had an hour wait, we needed to pass the time!) The little cannons shot out confetti to glitter the streets — fun!

After that, we still had some time to kill before dim sum, so we wandered throughout the decorated streets. It’s a really lively time of year to visit Chinatown.

We finally got seated for dim sum at Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Honestly, the only good food to order is the pork bao buns and the pork shumai. Chase and I thought we’d give the place another try, since it is historic, but overall we just prefer Golden Unicorn for dim sum.

Afterwards, we wandered along more streets, to see more Chinese New Year souvenirs. The festive red and gold is really beautiful.

There’s some cool street art to be found too. Chinese New Year is a great time to explore Chinatown. You can easily spend the whole day wandering around finding seasonal gems.
