This past weekend I had the pleasure of checking out the East Village Standard’s yearly yurt pop-up. Every winter, the hotel has this pop-up to use their garden space year round. The space is incredibly cozy, complete with a space heater, furs (hopefully faux) if you’re cold, and a moon roof to star-gaze.

The menu inside the yurt is inspired by a Swiss chalet. You’re given the option of à la cart dishes or a prix-fixe “feast”. You bet we had the feast!
The starting dish was a red cabbage salad with apples, kumquats, parmesan cheese, and roasted hazelnuts. None of us were too enthused by this salad. Instead, we shifted our focus to the delicious mulled wine.

The main course was cheese fondue accompanied with pickled veggies, sausage, bread, potatoes, and apples. They even give you one refill of cheese and board with the prix-fixe option, so we were easily stuffed.

Dessert was a fried apple pie with whipped cream. Not very easy to eat when you’re so full, but I’ll always make an exception for dessert.

Although incredibly cute and cozy for winter, the yurt was pricier than we expected. The feast option starts at $65 per person, and the price easily goes up with drinks and an 8% admin fee added to the bill. Still, I’d love to at least make this a yearly tradition!
