Ah, Paris. A romantic city known for its fine dining. While Paris may boast exceptionally fancy fare, don’t let your refined palate distract you from its diverse selection of street foods. These quick eats are perfect if you’re on a budget or in need of late night sustenance.
Pastries
Pastries are an obvious choice of Parisian street foods. Every morning in Paris, I search for a bakery, grab a café au lait and pastry of choice, and start my day. A couple of my favorites include pain au chocolat, pain aux raisins, and plié aux chocolat. Plié aux chocolat is similar to pain au chocolat except it also contains a delicious custard in between layers of the croissant.

Crêpes
Oh, crêpe, what a versatile street food! Savory and sweet flavors will satisfy whatever tastes you crave at whatever hour. In need of Parisian drunk food, a cheap dinner, or a quick, midday snack? Crêpes are the answer to all your needs. Choose from savory crêpes with eggs, chicken, cheese, mushrooms, and more. If you have a sweet tooth, indulge in crêpes with fruits, nutella, sugar, and even some liqueurs. I tried the Grand Marnier crêpe at Crêperie Chez Suzette in Saint Germain. It was quite the treat!

Falafel
Falafel was a street food I was not expecting in Paris. Nestled in the Jewish and gay neighborhood, Le Marais, we stumbled upon many falafel shops. However, nothing compares to L’as du Falafel. They were closed for Yom Kippur when we arrived, so we waited 2 days to get our hands on the delicious falafel special sandwich. It was well worth the wait and probably the best thing I ate in Paris. Check it out if you have a chance!

Macarons
Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of macarons. They are pricey cookies with a mediocre taste. However, being in Paris and doing as the Parisians do, we decided to try Pierre Hermé’s macarons. With ambiguous flavors like passion, ispahan, and mogador, snacking on macarons turned into a fun challenge of guessing which flavors made up each cookie.

Hot Chocolate
Alright, last of my favorite street foods is hot chocolate (or chocolat chaud). While not technically a street food, you can still grab this beverage to-go from the famous Angelina. The drink consists of thick chocolate, barely liquid enough to drink. If you’re visiting when it’s hot out, Angelina even makes an chilled version. We stayed in the cafe to sip on our decadent hot chocolates, but you can get the same drink as takeaway.

Hope you enjoy some of these street foods in Paris! What are your favorite street foods? Are there any classics I missed?
